Harrogate School of Swimming
Welcome to the Harrogate School of Swimming. Louise Aikman founded and manages the Swim School. She teaches alongside a fantastic, enthusiastic group of fully qualified ASA instructors: Al Scott, , Matt Andrews, Alice Gill, James Woodhead-Dixon, Andy Sandilands, Michelle Farnhill, Nicola Lawrence, Kim Winder & Mike Finan .
We offer an outstanding development scheme for children aged 3 years old and upwards, which follows the Amateur Swimming Association’s National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS). This plan teaches the fundamentals of swimming using the most innovative techniques, in a fun and exciting environment. The use of toys and games are a big part of our beginner classes. We aim to create a happy and safe environment concentrating initially on water confidence, and building on the necessary skills to develop stroke technique, through to encouraging stamina and advanced strokes.
Swimmers will be continually assessed during their lessons. However, formal assessments are undertaken every term, with badges awarded for successfully completing all skills required. There is a strict criterion for gaining each of the awards; therefore some children may not achieve awards every term.
Group sizes are small so that each child receives the attention they deserve and this enables then to progress at their own pace. Tuition is “hands on” with the extra security of having their teacher in the water with them at the early stages of swimming.
Lessons take place every week during the state school term times. All lessons are 30 minutes. Also intensive week swimming courses take place during the Easter & Summer holidays.
Private and group lessons are available for all ages and abilities by request – we provide for the absolute beginner, to the elite athlete.
